I have heard so many people claim it’s difficult to eat healthy because of what it does to their wallet – that it’s much more convenient to go to a drive-thru and order fast food. I happen to completely disagree.

I am a vegetarian and I am dedicated to eating healthy. I don’t want to be spending my whole paycheck on groceries either. That is why I came up with a list of healthy foods you can purchase while on a budget! (This is my actual grocery list, so it is a vegetarian diet. But you can always substitute my proteins with meat.)

Breakfast

  • Old fashioned oats
  • Bananas
  • Cereal
  • Milk (almond, soy, etc.)
  • Bread
  • Peanut butter (goes well on toast)
  • Honey
Lunch
  • Spinach/lettuce
  • Beef-less ground beef from Trader Joe’s
  • Black beans
  • Celery
  • Hummus
  • Olive oil and red wine vinegar (you can make this into salad dressing)
  • Dinner

    • Brown rice
    • Tofu
    • Onions
    • Packs of frozen veggies
    • Teriyaki sauce
    • Sriracha (I love making my meals spicy)
    • Spinach tortillas

All of this I can snag for around $100 and it makes multiple different meals! If you limit the amount you eat out at restaurants, that will leave you with more money to spend on nutritious foods that last for more than just one meal!
