3 Ways to Support LGBTQ Rights

Did you know that June is LGBTQ Pride Month? Pride is celebrated in June due to the Stonewall Riots that happened in June of 1969 when the police raided the Stonewall Inn—a New York City gay club. This is what is widely recognized as the first major protest for equal rights for the LGBTQ community.

There are a number of things you can do in June to support the LGBTQ community. Here are three easy ways to show your support:

1. Sign a Petition for LGBTQ Equal Rights

There are sites where you can pick a petition to sign and there are many in support of gay rights. Change.org is a great site filled with many different petitions. You may even decide to start your own! You have a voice—use it!

2. Volunteer for a Gay Rights Organization

If you do not know of any organizations you might want to volunteer for, there is a solution for you—Google! Search “gay rights organizations near me” and a list should come up of local organizations looking for volunteers. Sign up to be a volunteer. Not only will it help the LGBTQ community, but it makes you feel good for supporting others.

3. Attend a Pride Parade

The most common way to show up for the LGBTQ community is attending a Pride Parade. This is a fun way to show your support! The atmosphere is positive and uplifting and a great way to be involved.

These are just a few simple things you can do to join the fight for equal rights.
