Day 90: The Breath of Life

“We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls.” -Mother Teresa

The most important experiences that I have now are the ones in which I am able to find in dynamic stillness. Practices like meditation that help me discern the quiet inner voice from the monkey brain chatter are helpful. But going inside and looking for the spacious, porous stillness in the center of all my structures is when I find a connection to myself and the universe I inhabit, (like a single cell in a whole body), which has offered access to a living god, or as it is called in the vernacular of bio-dynamic cranial work, the breath of life.

I am convinced that the space where our human biology meets the spiritual plane is where our soul is born and resides. I have always thought about things in this way, but never until recently, had any biological knowledge to research and understand this phenomenon. There is so much energy body work available. I have participated in and studied modalities including Chinese medicine, homeopathic remedies, Feldenkreis training, and polarity work. All of these energetic treatment modalities work through the physical to heal multiple layers of existence simultaneously. Truly everything in life has viscera.

“The Breath of Life abides in stillness and breathes a living fire that fashions creation… Breath is the mother and stillness is the father, and together they create a polar process that organizes the wholeness in life. In this matrix, every subtle change in one part affects and modifies all other parts… the eternal dance, in which chaos dissolves into stillness to express renewed order, is life. The notion that we are separate from any part of the universe is dualistic thinking and it is a fundamental misperception of reality.”

These words open the book Stillness by Charles Ridley. As I read them I feel as if I have found a way home. I am lucky to have met one the senior teachers who trained with him for 15 years right in my own backyard. Even a brief half hour of biodynamic craniosacral treatment leads you deep into your own center and connects you with the healing energy that is our birthright.

He goes on to say, “You are as intimately connected to the vast expanse of Dynamic Stillness as to infinitesimal stillness within each subatomic particle in your cells. The Breath of Life unites all- she contains us and she is in us, like a fish in the ocean- and life with out her is preposterous.”

Here I am on Day 90 of the positivity quest with one of the surest paths to peace and well being that I have ever known. Life is more and more of a blessing.
